Finding Grace in the Rhythms of the Everyday

My last post talked about the broad intricacies of my life—the daily 9-to-5, the side hustles, the accounting work, the livestock... but being able to manage all of those moving parts means I desperately NEED things to ground me.

Having ADHD, for me, means Adulting Doesn’t Have Directions (and no, I was not clever enough to come up with that moniker on my own—thank you, Google!). The following "tracks" are my own heavy-metal hallelujahs—the little things I (try to) do every single day to keep me sane...ish.

Track 1: The Caffeine Quick-Fix ☕ Surprisingly? I’m a simple coffee girl. I just want a french vanilla brew with a little sugar and creamer. Mornings and I are not friends. I desperately want to be that girl who has it all together, wakes up at sunrise, and immediately starts checking things off her to-do list... but I’m just not. I’m getting better, but until that day comes, the simpler the task, the better I am at sticking with it. But listen—just because it isn't a fancy, multi-step barista creation doesn't mean that first sip isn't completely heavenly

Track 2: Tactile Comforts 🧵

I’m a creative. Have been, and probably always will be. I LOVE making something out of scraps or nothing at all. Blank canvases, though occasionally intimidating, are some of my absolute favorite things. Adding something tactile to my day grounds my nervous system like nothing else.

My favorite hands-on hobbies right now:

  • Tackling a puzzle while listening to an audiobook.

  • Putting stickers into my daily planner or building mood boards to accompany my monthly goals.

  • Losing myself in coloring pages or a sketchbook.

  • Diving into a stained glass project or painting ceramics.

I also really want to pick up puzzle books! Murdle has officially been added to my Amazon cart.

Track 3: The Midnight Escape 📚

My absolute favorite nightcap is a great book. Reading is the exact low-stimulation activity I NEED at the end of a chaotic day to get a good night's sleep. It helps with emotional regulation, completely reduces my sensory overload, and resets my focus.

More often than not, I’m immersed in a fantasy world, though occasionally I’ll toss in a romance book to shake things up a bit. Currently, I’m deep in The Ravenhood series. Dom is about to rip out my heart for the second time. IYKYK... and if you don't?? Start reading Flock immediately and come back to me after One Last Rainy Day.

Track 4: The View Outside (Unplugged) 🌾

Even with all these indoor tracks... the single best thing I can do for my sanity is to just get outside and go completely acoustic.

Sitting on the porch with my morning coffee, watching the farm cats eat their breakfast, listening to the birds, letting my dog get her first "sniffari" of the day... there is no way to accurately express how calming it is. Sometimes it’s just taking a short walk without headphones or anything electronic. Other times, it’s just standing at the gate watching the cows out and about in the pasture. Seriously, if you're feeling overwhelmed, just start by stepping outside and see what happens.

I am positive that there are so many more little things I could add to my daily playlist to help write some grace into my days. I’ve recently been following some "nostalgia" content creators on Instagram and have been keeping a running list of old-school things I want to try.

Tell me some of your favorite heavy-metal hallelujahs (or comfort tracks) you add to your days! Not only because I want to up my own playlist, but also because I’m incredibly nosey. 👀😂
