August 2025 Reading Recap

August was SUCH a slow reading month for me. I've been really busy with my 9-5 as well as my side hustle. I got in a total of four books - two traditional reads and two audiobooks.

The Forget-Me-Not Library by Heather Webber publishes on November 4, 2025. I was provided and read this as an ARC copy of this book via the publisher & NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review. It was a very cute, lighthearted read. If you enjoy Hallmark-esque. There were a few more mature themes that were present throughout but overall a cheesy feel-good read. I absolutely loved Deckle, the resident library cat. He was my favorite character being a cat lover myself. The magic of Forget-Me-Not makes this a wonderful fall read!

Next up was Deviant by Callie Hart. Wow, was I NOT expecting the spiciness of this book! I read (and fell in love with) Quicksilver as many in the book-tok and bookstagram world did. She offered this book as a free download if you signed up for her newsletters or something to that extent and I thought it'd be a great read to keep me busy. WOW... Zeth. He's every girl's steamy bad boy who is not just grey but morally black. While the spice was definitely SPICY, I feel like there is a really good storyline here too. I'm definitely going to keep reading this series because I truly need to know what happens next for Sloane.

"No, silly girl. I'm the big bad wolf.”

I did manage to get two audio books listened to as well! They were The Secrets We Buried by Becca Day and I Found You by Lisa Jewell. These did not go so well.

The Secrets We Buried almost kept my attention. I enjoyed where this was going and I didn't see the twist coming at the end! I thought I had a good guess for what had happened to their friend but I did NOT even remotely guess at the ending.

I Found You by Lisa Jewell and I struggeled... and that's putting it mildly. At one point, I literally went through Goodreads reviews to try to figure out how many POVs there were in this book because I was fully lost. I also found myself frequently annoyed with Lilly's character. First off, her voice did NOT lead me to picture her as a young bride but also, if you only knew your husband a short time, never were introduced to his family and then the police tells you he doesn't exists... wouldn't you eventually start to believe that there was a possibility that he was lying to you?!?

I think it's time for me to admit that audio books just aren't it for me. Maybe I need to change genre's? Or perhaps when I'm listening to them like when I'm doing house chores or something because during work just isn't allowing me to connect or even remember what is happening. I do think if I had read these as physical books or even ebooks, I'd have enjoyed them much more.

I've started another ebook but I signed up to do a fall reading bingo challenge and I'm excited to start planning which books I want to read to complete it. If you read any of these books, tell me your thoughts!
